Hoping someone can help he identify one of my first finds. Its iron and as you can see from the photos it measures 11" and weighs approximately 3 pounds. It is very corroded but I can tell what I would call the blade end is sharpened and much thinner than the opposite end which measures approximately 3/8" at it's thickest. The cut outs on the end opposite to the blade are irregular and concave on opposite sides, if that makes sense. There is also a raised edge approximately 2" away from the end where the two cut outs are. This edge is on both sides. I found this in a wooded area which has some older growth trees approximately 150-200 years old which does boarder land that has been farmed for at least 100 years. Where it was found was well into the wooded area but I have found trash dump sites nearby with items believed to be from the thirties and forties. It was approximately 6" in the ground and nothing else around it. All I've done thus far to it was clean with water and a light brushing. I can not see any markings through all of the corrosion. Thanks in advance to any assistance you may provide.

I like it. Edgar Allen Poe's long lost Pit and The Pendulum blade found in Delaware woods. Time to retire, hobby conquered.

Almost looks like a piece of the mold board from an old mule drawn plow? Tony

Thanks for the advice all. Still haven't been able to positively ID just yet. Someone else told me locally that it could be a blade to a tobacco or hide cutter. Looking at some photos of old tobacco cutters it seems close but still waiting to find it definitively. Also on a side note I've seen some posting about removing the rust by using Vapor-Rust and have had it soaking in it for over a day now and seems to not be doing anything to help break down the rust. I also have a couple buckles in the same container and all are completely submerged, still nothing from any of them. Any thoughts?

Life's too important trying to ID all unfamiliar trash...
Life is also too important to waste time trolling...
Thanks for taking the time to post your thoughts on the topic.

Wow. That's a pretty nice find! I am not sure what it is and am curious, too.
