Primary Interest:
All Treasure Hunting
It has taken several months of research, but, it appears that while I was hunting for 16th and 17th century ships, I found hull marks that crossed an interior island in Florida. Further research into the area by visiting the sites may prove these are actual Indian Burial mounds. I believe these sites to be from the 1200 or 1300 A.D. era or earlier due to the erosion of the properties. These 8 properties out date any ships from the centuries I was hunting for, so a call to the state archies was made and has been verified that this location has not ever been identified as probable until my call. Speaking to the state archies, my description of shells and other dimensions of the area were confirmed to possibly hold historic value. The state of Florida will now take my find and further investigate the area.
Not bad for my first treasure hunt, huh?

The hull marks are no longer available to me for research, but, maybe they will give me an honorable mention sometime in the future.

Now on to my next target located just 3 miles offshore in Florida.:hello2:

Sounds like a job well done!

How come you cannot access the hull marks now? Did the state make it off limits?

I am all for working with the state to save history of great importance on private property but not until I am ready...

I hope they let you join them in the research. That's the least they can do.

Need any help, I could use a little sunshine, ha.

Great post LDK and good work.

Thanks all. The site needs to be checked out and if I do it, it could lead to a third degree felony. I compared this site to other Indian sites and the comparisons are extremely similar. Seeing how there is no gold and silver, then I will just let the state take it. I asked them to let me know when they plan on getting to it so I could be present, so, we will see what happens.

As far as my next site, well, I have to get Scuba certification, gear, gas, and a small boat on a very early, calm seas morning.

Thanks Lockdown. Your post title made me a bit nervous, but glad to hear you did the right thing. I hope karma brings you a nice gold find in the near future.

this is exactly why my indian hill will never be givin to the state ...its on private property and like the state always will do to you, I turn my back to the state
from what I have seen the state usually does one of 3 things
1.what they did right here, you will be lucky to get a call,if you do,it will be when they are 95-100%complete of digging
2.remove all artifacts and put in a box never to be seen again, or left right where they sit, only to have a parking lot put over it..
3.make it a county/state preserve, let everyone know exactly where it is,and 5 years later vandels have made off with most of what was there

the state really doesn't care about the historical significance, and in some cases have went out of there way to hide it...so that new development can be built

slowwevo, that is exactly what the archies have told me today on the phone. They stated they don't even put up a sign for the fear of looters. So why not let those who are willing to work the site like us, do the recording and open our own museums. Mel Fisher did a great job with the Atocha, so let us do ours.

Well, received some bad news regarding my possible islands. They were formed by a steam dredger. Photos provided date back to the first recon aerial photos from 1949 but I am still intrigued. The shells on one of the islands may date back thousands of years. They were dug up from deep of what used to be an ocean floor but now is a part of an enclosed river. I plan on returning to these islands once Fla. gives me written permission. There is an area of the islands that was not touched that could still have some artifacts on it. We will see as soon as money becomes available.

Hey lockdown, I live in Miami and I have my padi certification and a sand shark......if you ever need an extra hand. Please don't hesitate
