Found this about 6 inches down pointing straight up in my backyard. At first I thought it may be some kind of ammunition. Have rinsed it off and this is about as clean as it gets. I would say it weighs about an ounce. Appears to have a screw cap at one end, but its way to rusted to open if that is indeed what it is. I have also tried pulling it open.

Hopefully someone can enlighten me as to what it may be.
Thanks
Reed

Welcome to TNet reed :icon_thumright:

My guess is lipstick.

Cannot get it open. Seems to be rusted shut, or dry clay perhaps. I'm not even sure that it opens, as it seems very solid. I'm thinking it may be copper as some areas show through.

My dad also thought it may be lipstick. But I think its to heavy to be.

and can you weigh it?

Here are pictures of both ends and a close up of what seems to be the screw cap. Pretty much the same shape as a torpedo the more I look at it.

Not sure what you mean. They are on the outside though. Only at the end. It does look like the stem covers that are pictured, but it does not have any grip surface in the middle, and stays the same width from tip to tip with the exception of the cap. The other end is way more pointed that the stem covers pictured.

Is the inside threaded, or in other words 'ribbed'? The outside as well would have some irregular surface with which to hold on to it.

Like the photos that Trikikiwi kindly provided, they came in a variety of shapes. Maybe not from a 'Tin Lizzie' itself, but I think we're on the right track.

reed, is the capped end, open or closed?
Is it a solid cap at the base?

Capped end is closed. I cannot get it open but it feels solid. I have been researching it the past hour and I believe it is a old lipstick container. Found several pictures online that look very similar.

Its a lipstick container.....I have found several of them in the last 6 months and some even had the lipstick still in them.
