On one side of a ravine on the Big Island of Hawaii, where bottle hunters have been rooting around, I noticed this object. Yes I handled it to get some pictures. Probably not too smart of me, but its about 15" long and 4" in diameter. Black plastic covers the top half and a stainless steel screw assembly sits on the tip. Quite heavy for an item of this size -- I'd guess 15 lbs. Anyone got any ideas? UEO1.jpgUEO2.jpg

It does look like a mortar round. Most of them have a set of fins on the back. They might be missing though. I wouldn't mess with it, that's for sure. Gary

Yes, call the authorities and let them deal with it unless you were somewhere you shouldn't have been. Nice find. I think.???

Blue typically means a training or dummy round. With that said, ALWAYS treat ordinance as real/live and report. Our lives are worth more than the relic. It does appear to have a Percussion Fuse on it.

yea leave it alone
if EOD thinks it is or was live they will most likely disarm it in place with about a pound of C4
the only way they will let you keep it is if you search for and pick up the pieces that are left
