Found this in a field not far from a 1796 large cent. Property dates back to the 1700’s. No idea what it is. Small musket ball is only a guess. Any ideas let me know. Thanks for looking.

I would say it's a round ball. A musket was a military long arm by definition and there were many other muzzle loading firearms in those days. Hard to get a good size idea next to the ruler, a caliper is a better measuring tool for round objects. Muskets were in calibers from .54-.75 so if it is smaller it may have been from a hunting arm. Most pistol balls will be .44 or smaller but there were many large caliber single shot pistols from .54-.69. Impossible to tell exactly what it was from or exactly how old it is. Looks like you have been finding some cool stuff out on the island!
