All, dug this at a homestead that has been continuously inhabited since 1797. I believe it to be made of brass. Looking at the reverse side, the rounded piece bent at 2 o-clock and the long thinner piece below it attached at both ends reminds me of a buckle. Because the metal is too thin (1/32") for a belt buckle, I was thinking a sash buckle. Do you agree? If so, how old do you think it is? If it isn't a sash buckle, what do you think it is and its age?

It looks like it held a decorative piece in the middle...if you find the other half look for what ever was inserted.
cool find

Highnam, I kinda thought the same thing, perhaps colored cut glass(?). The other half was no where to be found.
