So I got out today to do some digging in an old field across from a 1753 homestead. Found some flat buttons, Indian head penny and my first tomback button.. well half of one! I'm not sure on the military flat button, it appears to have an eagle and anchor on the front, back is pretty rough. I also found a slick rick silver with some very vague detail. Was thinking maybe Spanish but I'm not a coin expert.. Any ideas on the silver and the military button?? Nice gilt left on the back of the small one. For those squinting to read it, I believe it says Hayden's & Co./ Best Extra Rich.

Take a measurement of the silver piece, mm. And also take a pic of the side of it to show thickness.

Thanks guys! Here's a few more pics, the silver coin is very thin, the coin next to it is a war nickel. It measured right at 21mm

Here's a king William 6 pence next to my coin, the only detail on my coin that I can make out is the top left edge.. the back side of his head and the "VS".. are you guys seeing the same?? ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1503272003.563777.jpgImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1503272019.757413.jpg

Yes that's why I thought it was the William III 6D. And it should be 21mm so that fits too.

Nice finds. That is an early Navy button. I can't tell from the photo which way the eagle is facing but either way your button probably dates to the 1820-1830 time period. Can you make out a backmark on it?

Nice 1600's silver! It certainly looks like a William III sixpence to me! I see a lot of dug William coppers, I think I dug one once, but rarely any silver! Congrats!

It beats my 1 Reale or Sixpence I dug last week that was a blank flat disk covered in gouges and scratches.

Thanks again guys! The button does have back marking however it's impossible to make out. To me it looks like the eagle is facing to the right from my perspective looking at the button but not positive ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1503436264.481906.jpgImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1503436282.866515.jpg
