I found this object metal detecting today and was hoping somebody could help identify it. After looking on the backside, I see two tabs which were broken off and it may have even been joined together to create one solid tab. It's hard to tell. To me it looks like some sort of military rank insignia but that is just a stab in the dark! 
On the front side you can see vertical lines running from top to bottom. I included a shot of that before a little cleaning because it shows up better. Other than that, I do not see any manufacturers name or date. Any guesses? Thanks for looking.
