Possible Nickels from pick-up bank

I was in my pick-up bank this morning picking up my second box of halves for the weekend (more on that later). The tellers have gotten to know me and know I'm a collector, they mentioned a woman brought in a bunch of buffalo head nickels that were her dads, but he had passed away. They said they were in a bag and it was about $100 worth (probably not all buffs). I said I was interested, but the head teller was busy, so said she would hold on to them for me. She also said the woman had a coin appraiser look at them, but according to the appraiser they weren't worth anything and that's why she just cashed them in at the bank. I said I'd still like to take a look at them.

I'm not too knowledgeable on nickels. I know buffs are fairly rare, but do they hold much of a premium? Any advice?

Thanks,
bblair

Any buffalo is worth picking up if you can get them for 5 cents each. Dateless buffaloes aren't worth much at all. But you can get a product called Nic-A-Date which can bring back the dates, however, the coins will bear chemical stains and worth much less to collectors than an unaltered example of the same coin, but considering its not worth much of anything dateless, you have nothing to lose by dating undated buffaloes.

You could try soaking them in vinegar as well to bring back the dates.
vinegar works the very best for restoring dateless buffalo nickels. In my experience leave it in the vinegar for about a week.

Well they do not have a big premium know but who knows in the future. These coins are despairing slowly but eventually in the future they will be very few left and is when the premium will show in my opinion.
