I was trout fishing today and came across some interesting rocks. I'm curious if anyone can help me identify them. Being a prospecting/treasure geek, I naturally had my Whites TRX on my bait belt. I picked up signals on three rocks in close proximity. After doing research on meteorite identification, I was left further intrigued. My current dilemma is that I will be leaving this part of the state tomorrow afternoon, so I have a limited timeframe in which I could collect more. I could be there in 1 hour flat from where I am today, so I'm not going back unless I get strong indications tonight that these items are of interest.
What I can tell you is that each of the rocks react to rare earth magnets. All were found on the stream bend, so don't discount the natural rounding process involved. Two of the three rocks are very heavy for their size (I'll weigh them if necessary). The smaller, darker, more porous rock is rather lightweight. The other two are beasts. I attempted the surface test on each with a wheel grinder. You'll see a flat, smooth portion on each to help diagnose.
That's all I have, so I wanted to reach out to the experts since I'm leaving tomorrow. All feedback is greatly appreciated!
