Ok guys. I have dug some interesting things in my yard. A little history first. The Tennessee to Alabama Railroad is about 100 yards down hill from my house. It was used during the Civil War as a supply line for the Union. (See "Battle of Sulpher Creek Trestle") My house was originally built in 1904 as a doctor's office and turned residentual in 1927. There is rumor that there was an old house that burnt where my backyard is now. No burn damaged stuff found yet though. Here are just a few of my finds so far. Any guesses as to what was here? button.jpgbuckle.jpgring.jpgmisc hunting.jpgbridle.jpgRailroad spike.jpgMachine.jpg

To me it looks like stuff from a old house. The first pic is a button. Was that a Indian head? Nice finds!

If item on table (hand stitching machine) was for leather and canvas work related to campaign service a camp site could have been there. Would expect some
Lead around area. Depending on how much high ground is in area, sounds like decent drainage where you are at. All ways a plus for a home site.
Low left in a couple pics ,piece with u shaped bend in it may be a bit for horse,if so it could be researched for era.
Neat finds.

It is a horse bit. Not sure about the era. Possibly CW or later. My land is on the just about the highest spot in the neighborhood. There's stories that fly around such as the slave house that's approximately 100 yards to the north and possibly a manor house where mine is sitting now. Wish I could find some history on the site. Research hasn't turned up alot so far though.

The button and buckle at the top seems to be Victorian Era which pre-dates my home.

looks like stuff that would be inside a house, so i geuss there was an house there at one time.

Nice! Site a natural draw. Must be surprises there. Landscaping,(added fill material, site leveling) on one multi home site i worked left original ground layer out of reach around where former blacksmith spot was. once away from fill a layer of cinder was still around seven inches. Your mix of eras might still be depth related if undisturbed areas left, could help dating.
