First, sears were/are not made of brass, which would be way to soft. The sear had/has to be hardened steel, and it fit into the half
cock notch which is the safety, and the full cock notch, and has to smoothly and crisply come out of full cock when the trigger
is squeezed. The first photo shows what a sear looks like, and the second photo shows the sear in the half cock notch. Sears
and tumblers are the same on both cap lock and flint lock guns.
