I was digging at an old dump today that is by a 1940's house, and i think i may have dug my first gun. It looks real to me but im no gun expert. It feels way too heavy and looks too detailed to be a cap gun. If anyone can verify that its a real gun, I would really appreciate it. I also dug a copper piece with a heart on it, and my brother said he thought it went to an old horse saddle. Any help is appreciated. Thanks for looking and HH!

Here is absolute proof of your second object's ID. It is a civilian-usage horseharness buckle-shield (also called a buckle-cover) invented in 1892 by Mr. R.A. Wooding of Kensington Connecticut. Although the Patent diagram doesn't show a decorative emblem on the buckle-shield's front, some that relic diggers find have a heart emblem, or a "bullseye" emblem, or a football-shaped emblem.

lol!!! no that's a toy gun or half of one, real hand guns aren't made like that! plus its old enough to come from a time when quality counted. here is a diagram of a real M1911 as you can see no real gun comes in 2 halves like yoursM1911A1_1.gif
