I use to hit this site when I lived Near Huntington Beach and took out over $400 in a summer. There were clad coins everywhere! I had days where I got over 70 quarters. ( I think they use to have carnivals there and might still do so there could be a new assortment of coins there now)
When I moved there was still plenty left. (that was like 10 years ago). If anyone wants to check it out to see if there is still lots there, I would be interested in what they find. Just let me know.

Its a small football sized lot at St Bonaventure grade school in Huntington Beach. Located Heil/Springdale.

When I use to detect there, I never had any problems with people telling me to scram.

I havent been there is 10 years, but I imagine that it hasnt changed. I live in Ohio and have no plans on going back to CA anytime soon.

Well i got out there today but the field was in use. I was surprised to see it is a very small area. I'll try again another day. I did hunt the park accross the street but didn't find much. I noticed another school nearby and hunted that for a couple hours. I found about $12.00 in clad. Most of which is quarters. I live a good distance away from this site but I think it's worth going back. It's close to the beach so I can make a whole day hunt and part of the night at the beach. Although....it was 80 deg today but it still gets real cold at night. Maybe I'll wait on the night time beach hunting until it warms up a little. I'll let you know what I find when I get back there. Thanks again!

Actually...we here in the frozen wasteland really are jealous. Sounds like a spot that would be easy to grid and probably still loaded with coinage.

Hey Danimal,

I feel your pain! I was born and raised in Michigan. I spent many a winter day freezing my butt off. Been out here in Cali since 79'. I've been reading your posts, you have made some fantastic finds!! You may be jealous of the temps out here but I'm jealous of the history and the old coinage you guys/gals find back east. I guess we can't have it all!

I have read that the odds of finding 1800's gold coins is MUCH higher your way Mark!

Also, I bet there are more of the CC mint coins in the ground on the west coast too...California has a lot of history but you're right about totals. Population densities started on the East coast and headed west.

Let me know how you do SoCalMark. Hopefully it hasn't been hit since I was there last back in '94 or so. By the way, -3 degrees today when I woke up. Still love Ohio though! (Just wish we had Carl's Jr and Del Taco here!)
