Possible gold button maybe from shirt found In ocean

I work on an island in Long Island sound and was cleaning up the beach when something caught my eye. It was after our boat came by that brings machines and equipment on so it turns up the sand and makes huge holes. I found this button In one of the holes. My boss has found all sorts of cool things on the island including gold and he's almost certain what I found is gold. Can anyone else me with identifying it. I feel that if it was any other metal it would have corroded by now. The island I work at was a casino back in the 1920s and has had people on it for hundreds of years.

Looks like a brass button that may have had gold gilt on it once-upon-a-time. I'd get back out there with a metal detector ASAP!

gold comes out gold in ocean
now and then It can have a little green from brass or copper used in alloy of 10k - but it will usually clean right off
