I dug this ring last week in the field that produces mostly mid 19th century relics, military buttons and seated silvers and a trime. It was quite mangled and it took some doing to bend it back this far. It took a while before I could even identify it as a ring.
I posted it in Todays Finds and someone suggested that it could be a fur trade item.
In the photos there is a cross to the left of the heart but not in the typical Jesuit style.
Your opinions are important because if the majority agree that it is fur trade, I plan on taking it to my jewelry repair guy to have it re-shaped but I'd rather not spend the money if it's just a cheap 19th century trinket. I live near St. Louis, Missouri if that helps.

At first glance... I thought it was a possible "gumball" ring...

But leaning towards a "band" for flowers.

But hey ?

Looks old to me, What kinda metal is it ? My guess is stylisticly maybe from around the middle to upper 19th century, but maybe it is older?

It's copper or brass.

Possibly symbolizing the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Maybe giving out as a student completed some kind of phase in catechism :dontknow:
