Possible Fossil?

Hello all. I found this one about 30+ years ago when I was a kid in an eroding sand dune. I think I wanted it to be native American but somebody at the local natural history museum told me it could be a fossilized shark tooth. It has a slightly rounded front and a rather flat back. Once I was told it could be a tooth it made sense to me but it could have been the guy at the museum being nice and trying to encourage my interest. I'd be interested in what you all thought. It may just be a rock with a biased caretaker! Thanks for looking.

Looks more like a fossilized bone. Like the top of a ball and socket joint. There is a lot of that around the gulf coast of the US. Fossilized marine mammal bones

It is difficult to tell from a picture, but I don't think it's a tooth. My untrained eyes are telling me it's a rock.
