Is it broken and this is part of it or is this the whole thing? Metal? Back?

Daryl
It's not broken. There are two screws that held something. Might be a pivot point. No manufacture marks anywhere on it.

Is it bent? If not, maybe there were two with some type of plate across attached by the screws to hold a frame or soap dish.

Doesn't look bent. Looks like it was made that way.

I mentioned soap dish, due to the decor....Faucet Handle, Fan, Draped Towel, Rubber Bulb items that you would find in a bathroom.

Hard to figure how they would tighten the screws at that angle.

Greetings...the screws appear to be directly in front of each other. Are the screws still accessable to be turned by a screwdriver?
It is possible to access the screws with screw driver. But not allot of room. Their slightly offset.

Cool find CB
Is it possible to see some other profile pics to show it from the narrow edge, to better show the offset, please ?

Looking at the pics...I can almost see a wear mark at the point between the screws...like it was a pivot point maybe hanging on something. Seems there isn't a similar "roundedness" to the edges like the one there.

Have you tried balancing it from a nail or something to see how it hangs? Maybe it's some sort of scale?

I am certain its part of a door knocker. It's missing the other piece. If you google "antique door knocker" in the images directory. You will find some of the most strange door knockers in the world, and some come close to this one.

If it's a door knocker, how would you catch hold of it? No knob or handle that I can see. Or maybe that's what was held by the screws? But then were does it pivot to strike the door? Beats me! M ::) nty

Hear is a little different angle of the screws. Don't know if it will help much.

Just like to thank everyone for their input so far. I'm still leaning toward door knocker. But one thing has me confused. I can not find a worn spot. Where it would hit the plate on door. Where is Sherlock Homes when you need him?

The side veiw looks like a chariot ,curious if the holes are all the way through it ,if they are not my quess would be maybe a handle for a water hydrant like a hand pump for a really old well ,or possible afixed to somethings as a caring handle because of the curve on the top section .Is it made out of steel ,cast iron ?

The holes do not go through. It's made out of bronze.
