Possible CW Item, Button? Need Help

Ok I almost tossed this out by accident from my finds bag. Was hunting with family and friends last week and found this within one foot of a droppped three ringer bullet. I ran it under some cold water and used a toothbrush to remove the dirt. It appears to have a shield with an eagle on top with a possible arrow. It also looks to have stars going around the inside with some wording but I cannot read what it is. It still has some goldish guild (if thats the proper word). Any help would be appreciated. Looks like the face of a New York button. Hard to tell if it is CW era without the back of the button. Cool find though.

Thanks for your help. I found a picture of the button on google. Now I am going to research the area to see if a New York regiment was in the area.
