Coastal SC This Iron "flower pot" shaped item weighs about 90lbs
Found in an area where musket ball Tombac button and colonial pottery shards were found
Ofcourse modern stuff as well
Any Ideas? the hole in the top is a little off center and about size of a golf ball
Crucible? Anvil? grinder? No clue

We had very heavy gates (1940s) built that had a long pole across the top that stuck out over a post on the hinge end. At the end of this pole was a similar weight. The object was for this weight was to offset the gate weight and allow the opener (sometimes female) of that gate easy opening and closing. The two weights could very well have been a portion of a double gate setup. I have also seen similar weights with a pole out the top to hold a volleyball net on vintage playgrounds.

Good thinking Makes sense. Sorry for the confusion but that's really the same object in 2 pictures. But still good thought. very well could be.
it was deep as if maybe buried standing up with the hole on top. The iron looks pretty ropy to be modern but still a weight would make sense. Dang thing was HEAVY

Thanks

Anybody else find anything similar? A gate weight might make sense but the hole isnt deep enough or wide enough to have a held much of a pipe as it appears
It's solid iron filled with concrete (same thing 2 pictures)
