My young nephew found this with his new metal detector first time out
It looks kind of familar but I dont know why?
Any ideas appreciated Coastal SC
Artifact 1.webp

The nut on the left bolt is square. The nut on the right bolt looks to be hex. Hex nuts are not near as old as square. Early 1900's if it indeed is a hex nut. Gary

Could be the back plate for a mold board on a plow. The hex nut could have been added later if the square nut was lost.

Thanks TP and BW and TOny y'all are great and those are some great and informed ideas
Very interesting info
We'll call this on a wrap unless someone else has additional info

Happy Hunting!

With those long bolts I chose the timber coupler rather than farm machinery parts. Plow parts would have two pieces of iron on the bolts and the timber coupler would only have the iron coupler on the bolts with the wood timber long gone due to decay.
