Yesterday I found this what's it on the surface while metal detecting I thought it was an Indian head at first but it's not ,it's smaller then a penny. I attempted to clean it to no avail there's no detail left except for a very faint 0 or an o. It's not a button there's no evidence of a shank ever being attached and it's about as thick as a fatty Indian. Any help would appreciated it has peaked my curiosity.

It could still be a penny.....just badly worn. You'll have to do some careful cleaning to bring out a little more detail.

It could be a three cent nickel coin.

You could be on to something when I found it I didn't go over it with my etrac. I just did and it read 11:27 then I went over a fatty and a flying eagle cent and both read 12:22 it could be nickel but I believe Indians from 1860s had Nicole in them.

you could have a coin electrolysis built in about 10 min, and put the coin in there for 1-2 minutes; and your question will be answered.

Count be one Euro centimos....they are pretty small....and crappy clad material.

Could you take a pic of the back or whatever side it is? In the last pics you posted they were the exact same. If you can weigh it do so. According to the Red Book a 3 cent nickel would weigh in at 1.94 grams. Also measure it. The diameter of a 3 cent nickel should be be 17.9 After weighing and measuring tell us what they both are. Then if it is a coin we should be able to ID it.

I don't believe it to be clad it was found at cellar hole in the woods off the beaten path the newest coin found was a 1868 2 cent. I will get the measurements and weight and possibly try electrolysis.

What other coins have you found? Sounds like an awesome spot!

Well it's not a Flying Eagle unless I'm missing something and it's not a IH ... and it looks like you posted the same side twice . What I see it a badly corroded Lincoln Cent and without a picture of both sides that all I see ... anyone else see a Lincoln here ? IMHO , Woodstock

Your right it's not a flying eagle but it's not a Lincoln either its a lot smaller and thicker. I'll get the measurements soon I don't have a precision rule or scale on hand.

Can you take a pic of the rim/edge/side of it. If its thicker than a cent then it's probably not a 3 cent nickel

You can put it in boiling hydrogen peroxide to see details. It's a miracle how it looks afterwards. Comes up real nice.but it's up to you

This is the coin on edge it is the one on the left. Unfortunately this is the result of a hot peroxide bath there's really no detail left. Sorry for the terrible pic. And also the coin has no rim
