DAY 1
I went to the K to 8 school now that the ground is diggable there. I was hoping to break my silver slump. I spent 5 hours swingin the CZ21 and found 46 coins with a face value of $3.96, a pistol cartridge, a beat up toy car, construction aluminum and copper, aluminum bottle caps, lots of can slaw, 3 pencil ends, a pick, and 19 tabs
The pick was on a hillside by the school. Possibly lost during construction of the school in the 1950s, but it could also be from before the school was built. Hard to tell for sure
DAY 2
I got out to the middle school for a hunt. The ground was fairly hard in spots but I toughed it out for 5 hours swingin the CZ21 and found 55 coins with a face value $3.52, a toy tank, a 1945 wheatie, a ring, a pokemon pin, 2 metal beads, 2 keys, can slaw, 5 whole aluminum cans, aluminum bottle caps, aluminum fence wire, 2 pencil ends and 20 tabs.
A few interesting items, but nothing special.
DAY 3
The Indian head penny field is finally thawed out (just in time for an ice storm we are expecting). I spent 5 hours swingin the CZ21 expanding my last grid search. I found 26 coins with a face value of $2.01, a 1926 wheatie, a mushroomed bullet (about .30 caliber), a shell casing, a crock decoration, a brass whatzit, aluminum bottle caps, aluminum fence wire, can slaw and 37 tabs.
The whatzit is a mystery. It has a bolt in the back and an indentation on the front. No clue what it could be.
DAY 4
I went back to the set of ball fields I went to last week. I spent 5 hours swingin CZ21 working some loose grids and cleaning up around some fences. I found 62 coins with a face value of $5.26, a toy truck, a small bent keyhole, a flat button, a small automobile light, a W mint quarter, an aluminum carabiner, an aluminum ring, a sister brass dish, pry of a tootsietoy wedge dragster, a toy helicopter, aluminum fence wire, aluminum bottle caps, can slaw, an iron stirrup, 22 tabs, 1 pencil end.
This is the second stirrup I have found in this park in 2 weeks. The one I found last week is on the left. They are slightly different. They could be from the civil war, but I can’t find enough info on line to be sure. They could also be older because this was the site of a large 1790 cabin. If anyone knows anything about stirrups please let me know what you think.
I have found several flat buttons. This one is very thin, plain on the front and not in great shape. It has a wreath pattern on the back and PLATED in black letters. The letters are hard to see. But the TE is fairly easy to see and the rest are there if you look very carefully. So just a generic flat button probably from the early to mid 1800s.
The light bulb is I believe an automobile indicator light. Not sure of the age.
I did find a W quarter in circulation about 2 years ago. I keep looking, but no luck until I dug this one up. It was just below the grass so lost in the past year. It is a 2019 War in the Pacific issue quarter. Not worth a lot (the ones that have sold on eBay average around $15). This one is not in perfect shape so much less, but still a different sort of find.
Most of the finds this week were modern coins. When you have found as many coins as I have that gets kind of boring. I need to find goodies or interesting things to keep the detecting fun. Luckily today I did find enough to make it a good day and end the week on a good note. Unfortunately I haven’t found any gold or silver since December 14th (the eyeball finds on the street don’t count as detecting finds). Hopefully I will break the slump soon.
Thanks for looking, stay safe, good luck and may your coil lead you to good things. If you know anything about stirrups or recognize the whatzit, please let me know. I am always eager to learn.
