Can anyone help identify this artifact? From a known Civil War site, I believe part of a weapon. Thanks to everyone that has helped with IDs!

I have no idea but looks like your on a good site. I’d stick around there awhile. Congrats

I don’t think it’s from a civil war weapon, at least not one I’ve ever seen

Looks like it could be a trigger plate for an Enfield Rifle, with the trigger rusted off.

Fullstock's guess is correct. Your find is definitely the trigger mechanism plate from a civil-war-used British Model P-1853 Enfield Rifle. Here's a photo showing your find before it spent 150+ years in the ground. As Fullstock indicated, the curved part of the iron trigger is broken off... but the trigger's iron "tang" (the flat board-like projection above the brass plate) is still in its original position.

Huh, now I see it, you guys have a great eye. I own a p53, I guess I’ll have to break it down and clean it more often.
