Hey all I'm fairly new to this board but with the weather warming up ( barely ) Ive been thinking about possible places to hunt with my new Bounty hunter tracker IV.
One possibility is my deceased grandmothers farm. We ( my immediate family ) owns the land, and through talking to my mother ( she grew up on this farm ) said that the house was over 100 years old when THEY moved in ( in the early 60's ). The house has since burned down, and all the rubble removed. What does remain is the barn, Which was built around 1850 or so, about 80 acres of pasture, ( one of which pastures used to be fenced in for the horses ) a pool house, (built in the late 60's early 70's ( the pool has since been caved in and covered) and an old dump ( a ditch where at first look is everything from an old stove, a car door, broken bottles, and numerous NEW trash things ( the dump is about 10ft * 10 ft in area.
My boyfriend and i went there on one rainy day with an old really crappy "toy" detector from the 60's and found nothing but a horseshoe and some peices of iron, and a crowbar haha.

The second possible place would be at HIS grandmothers farm ( they bought it in 1960 but other members of the family have owned the land for the past 150 years EASILY )
on that land back away from the road there used to be a house that her grandmother lived in that burned down, the land where this house was is now pasture for cows. She ( his grandmother ) says that the place where the old house used to be is on what is her neighbors farm now, but that theyre such good friends of the family they wouldnt care in the slightest that i come hunt there. among the old house that used to be there on this farm, there are 2 man made ponds, about 80 acres of pasture for the 2 horses, and an old barn that i dont know how long it has been there.

I dont know as much about second place as the first, but ive seen a picture that is probably from 1900-1920 with the old house in it before it burned down.

Any Ideas of places to search first on this vast amount of land would be greatly appricated. clues of what to look for and things of that nature. im very excited about this season ( it being my first and hopefully ill make some dough while im at it :)

THanks alot guys and gals.

Ps. How do you all go to parks and hunt without recieveing guff from the police? Ive been to one park and was just brushing around the mulch with my hands ( not even digging!) and was told i wasnt allowed to have a metal detector there. Where do i go to get permission? Where can i find the rules and laws?

HI KARA, if you can.t get permission from the police, ask any one you see Mowing Grass there or go to the Towns Office & ask there. Most Public Parks Are Open in Most areas, But I have found in some areas the Police don't know this.? If it wasnt the police who told you no, go ask them. Sometimes Going over someone who just Thinks they knows Head works . HAPPY HUNTING & GOOD LUCK ; jeff

thanks jeff ill do that :)
as for the old barn, it was built in the 80's but before it was built and older one was torn down, probably built in the 40's or so

ALSO!
another question in my grandmothers home that burnt down, she had ALOT of jewlrey... she gave me some, but the real valueables she kept for herself, do any of you think there is any chance that some of it may be left in the dirt? or do you think most of it has melted or got scooped up in the rubble?

anything Is Posable Kara, of course there would probably be alot of nails there also, Which you can't discriminate out completly If you want to find Gold. EVEN melted Gold has Value. one of the Great things about Gold is You Can't destroy it. You can change it's shape But you can't make it Disappear completly . Sounds to me that the Whole area could keep you buisy with many great finds for Years. worst case cenerio, if you can't do the parks, you have all these great home sites to search :) Again, Good Luck & Happy Hunting ; jeff

Thanks jeff good to know :)
any other sugesstions on where to look?

Heres some tips: around any buildings that are or used to be there, any large trees, or swimming holes and also stock ponds beware of the dreaded 22 long rifle case they will most likely be every where. ?Another good place is tree stands if there are any out there you drop a lot of stuff from there and never find it again. ?Hope this helps good luck

Kara! Why not post were live. Like State and town and maybe a forum member can connect with you, where you can do a little coin shooting and likely get a lot of your questions answerd. Sounds like you're very new with a M.D. and you might let someone take you under there wing for awhile and show you the ropes Monk

ive posted on here before where im at to see if there are any other people around. but with little reply
i live in cincinnati oh if anyone goes out around here i would love to learn!

Kara, If nothing else, another thought. Hows about calling your closest M.D. dealer and asking him of a local club or if he new of someone who would let you tag along with them the next time they went out coin shooting. they can show you how to dig as to not tear up the sod. And I'll tell you if you use a knife make sure it has a guard on it. A cut finger can be no fun! Monk

ive posted on some other boards about people in cincinnati no replies as of yet!
also if anyone has any tips they can give me on my situation, Please reply all info is greatly appriciated

hey kara get in touch with nick1878, i beilieve he's down around your area. i'm in cleveland so not much help up here...good luck.......serb

KARA, the First Places I'd search around the Ponds & the Pool area.? Next I'd go over to that Creek & check along the Bank. DON't forget what I told you about any Big old Trees That Would have been Good spots for shade & also check along any Sidewalks or other Paths that lead from one building to another. Dont forget about all the Sheds that have dirt floors. ............... The places the way you describe them sound like you could probably make alot of cool finds just about anywhere there.?. The Garden, & the Shed Floors would have been Great Places to Hide a Cache. So would anyplace along that grownup path where there may be a Large Rock, to mark the Spot. Watch out for the Pet Cemetery ;D ?GOOD LUCK & Keep us Posted ; jeff
