I found these at a old homestead in Mississippi. Most of the items I've been finding ranges from 1870-1910. Are these buttons or knobs from cabinets or something? I adjusted the clarity so yall can see details better. I found other brass items that i will be posting soon. Thank you!!!!

I thought the one with the "C" was a Confederate Block C coat button but the C on my button isn't block. The top of the C curves in and loops. Somewhat cursive?

Don't think that "C" button is a Confederate Cavalry button but you can look @ most of the buttons here Ridgeway Civil War Archive Confederate Cavalry Buttons The other button looks like a flat civilian flower button with no "back-mark" (manufactures name on back) which would make it more of less 18th to early 19th century!

Thanks again for helping me! I have this site bookmarked haha! Yeah, thats what I figured considering my C is different. Darn! I live in the middle of Confederate country between 2 battle sites and I have yet to find anything Confederate! Grrr....

There were tons of different styles of Confederate C's and actually this could just be one of the styles that I have not seen before or the button is so smashed up it is very hard to ID it. If you could clean the top portion up alittle bit Where the C starts on top I'd like too see how that looks, there is still a chance this could be a Confederate C but don't know it is so smashed up

Actually looking at that far right button better now I do not know if that was a flat button or not. Looks like something else went there other than a shank on the back of it! Hard to say on that one too.

I was confused on that one bc my 1st thought was Tombac but then I was trying to figure out how a Tombac button got here? Here meaning Mississippi Delta. My area belonged to the Choctaw Indians during that time period. Could be a heirloom if it is a Tombac. I will clean up the other the best I can. Peroxide method or not? So scared to damage it if it is Confederate!!!

You can buy Ammonia with soap already in it. Or you can go down to Wal-Mart and get Ammonia with lemon scent that is got the soap mixed in with it (do not add any soap too ammonia unless it is already got it mixed in with it) then gently brush it for about 3-5 minutes then repeat 20 minutes later or so that is pretty much the proper way of cleaning a button but any other way you know about may work too! Just becareful with ammonia of course dont ever mix that stuff with anything

The larger item does look like a late Victorian drawer pull with broken stem.

The steelbacked 'C' Button would normally indicate a post-1900 manufacture, however some do pre-date 1900 a little. Not sure that its Military, but if it where then if this site can't spot it, then somethings up!

Thank you! That makes sense. It is a old plantation. Wonder if its the first letter of landowners last name? I'm cleaning it up now. I figured that big one was a drawer pull!
