I dug this about 15 years ago and have always wondered what it was! It appears to be brass or bronze, possibly cast as you can maybe see a seam on the side view. Its about 2 inches in diameter and 3/16th thick. Appears to have roman people on one side and possibly the ruins of that Parthenon on the other. The relief on each side is about 1/8 to 3/16th from the lowest points to the highest points.

I found it in a field behind the house where I grew up in Northern Virginia. The only other information I can tell you is that supposedly there was an old livery stable there. I also found a 1825 Large Cent there and an Indian Penny. It was a corn field and would be plowed regularly so the depth I dug it at is unknown.

Never been able to identify this. Any info would be awesome.

The back side appears to be the Acropolis. Not quite sure what that soldier is doing onthe front. Something that involves lotion? :laughing7:

I would guess this is a Victorian Greek revival pendant. Looks heavy!

Was thinking the Parthenon and Acropolis.... wasn't expecting to find something that looked Greek in Northern VA!

It is heavy! Its about a 1/4 inch wide so it has some weight to it. Probably wouldn't be too much fun to wear around your neck as it appears to have been.

The front side is Achilles bandaging the arm of Petroclus. So, in a sense, it could involve lotion.

I still think it is a Victorian pendant.

Thanks guys! I dug this when I was a teenager around 1995 or so. I used to spend every waking hour metal detecting back then. Just recently I decided to get back into the hobby, so I pulled out the boxes of my old finds and updated my equipment. This thing has had my stumped since I dug it so I finally decded to try and ID it. Back then there werent great forums like this to post to... the only option I knew of was to snail mail the "Ask Mark Parker" section of W&E Treasures magazine with pictures and wait for a response. haha Thanks again.
