I dug this very old looking brooch or pin today and could use some help ID'ing it. It was 7 inches down and appears to be made of brass. It only measures 1 3/4" across. Reminds me of an eagle design or possibly a bat wing style.

I don't know if it's military or not. Seems to be too odd looking for a woman to wear as a brooch, but I'm no expert. Any help as to the age of this item and whether or not it's military related would be appreciated!

Here's a couple of pics. I haven't cleaned it up yet, but you can still see some good detail on the pin:

I think that's a great guess! I looked through hundred's of GAR medals and badges on eBay and most have an eagle design on the top. Unfortunately, I couldn't find an exact match anywhere online. At least I have something to work with now. Thanks for your help!

That's certainly possible, but other fraternal groups used that style as well, usually though there was a separate bar across the back if it was suspending a ribbon. I believe that there's text across the front, which might be revealed by doing a rubbing with a crayon, etc.
I've seen a lot of this style too that we're delegate type badges that would say a state from where they came.

I did find a listing on eBay that shows a badge with a very similar shaped pin. Unfortunately, the seller isn't sure if it's a GAR, Civil War or some other type of pin. Here's what his badge looks like:
