This monkey decor/or lion thing is very decorative. After some cleaning and rubbing it looks to be silver? Or silver plated. I don’t k ow how to tell. It’s not magnetic. There are no handles for this to be a drawer pull. No holes for it to be on a necklace. It does on the back look to been attached at one point in time to something. This is probably my best find from Sunday morning. The area was civil war activity but very old mill houses were there too. Just curious as to an age range for it . Thanks for looking!

Looks a lot like a bridle rosette, and a good fancy one at that. Is it filled with a lead/solder type material?
So it was pinned on from the back where solder points are apparently? How would you go about dating it?

Lion makes more sense, but I see why anyone would think monkey. It does resemble a baboon. Good find

I recovered an identical one in an 1830-50s site. Rosette.
