I found this semi-circle hinged/lock brass piece at a house site in west central Mississippi that was built in the 1830's.
Is it possible that this is an African trade bracelet? This morning I saw on the internet an identical looking piece that was complete. But I do know that not everything you see on the internet is true so I wanted to come onto this thread and see if I could get any assistance with the identification of this piece.
Thanks for any help with identification. @foreverfree Alan Polk mentioned that you might have some insight into this with your work at the museum.

I think you're on to something. Any stamping on it? Nice find:icon_thumright:

No stamping on it, just plain brass.

Some have mentioned a bull nose ring but this piece I found is hinged with a clasp and hook. It wouldn't be a bull nose ring.

Take my word for it. I have assisted in putting them in bulls noses.
