When I found this, my first thought was 'unexploded military ordenance!?' for a second or two. Here's some info. It was found in a historical mining area, but no evidence of any mining activity in that area. No evidence of historical structures, either. It's close to a road that has been in existence since probably the l880's. The point appears to be lead, but it's not. The bottom flange is brass, and appears to have a snap ring along the inside rim. My most educated guess was maybe some type of wheel axle hub cover. If it was, and it wasn't damaged, it would probably be worth somethin to restorers, but I'm not concerned about any value, just wonderin if anybody can ID it.

Maybe some type of terminal cover? On the second pick it looks blue around the hole, suggestive of acid erosion. It looks like screws next to that that would secure a contact.

That area has been chipped out, but it does resemble acid corrosion. And it does appear there was some sort of plate held down by screws.

I'm guessing contacts used to hold a light socket and this is an aging wall sconce.

I dont know what it is but the part that looks like lead is pot metal or cast aluminum.
