Below is a picture of five points I picked up from a garage sale Saturday. I know the picture isn't detailed enough for an assessment of authenticity, but can anyone tell at least what type they are. The smallest measures about 2 and 1/4 inches from tip to base (except for the longest 3 and 1/2) and about 1 and 1/2 inches across. I know almost nothing about NA artifacts and would appreciate any info I could get.

Thanx

You will have to post a better close-up picture. They could be reproductions considering the source. The two on the end look like Hopewell and the two in the middle archaic. The bottom one is of archaic form.

Look like repo's to me. But what the heck do I know!

Can you tell us what state they were found in? If not, what state you bought them in. They aren't points that I'm familiar with. So, I'm going out on a limb here, and guessing NC is out.

They were purchased in Houston, Texas at a garage sale. The people I purchased them from only knew that they had originated from their son and nothing else about them. I agree that they are probably reproductions. I can find no trace of mineralization, and the surfaces seem fresh. I will post detailed pics tomorrow. I mostly was hoping to expand my knowledge and find out the rough types. They seem a bit large to be arrow points.

I agree with the others, hard to tell from the pictures and we don't know where they are from. That being said they look to me to be Central or South Central U.S. type points. I hope they are authentic but at least three of them look like repros to me.

If my recollection is correct, some Texas points lack the weathering and "hinge fractures" (I think that's the correct lingo, hinge fractures) frequented on points from other parts of the country. I wouldn't call them repro. Points just yet.

I was thinking repro on the one on the far right top row. But just from this view it would just be a guess. Id have to see them in person to know for sure. Hope you didnt pay much for them.
