Went out walking a corn field with my 9 year old the last couple of days and found a couple of keepers! The point is sort of unfinished, I think maybe the person making it found a weak spot at the bottom of it. The stone fits in my hand perfectly and I believe it is a pestol. (Unfortunately it looks like it met the plow a few times.) My 9 year old was very excited and can't wait to get back out! (Artifact hunting is definitely more fun then metal detecting for him for the time being). :(

The BEST PART OF THE HUNT was being out with your 9 year old! Thanks for sharing...

Awesome finds! I wouldn't worry about your boy, the fact that he finds field-walking exhilarating is a great thing to know, and I can sympathize with the thrilling instant-gratification of eyeballing an ancient tool poking out of the dirt! I remember clearly the adventures my Father and I went on back when I was 9, and while our interests overlap significantly I've headed in my own direction in many realms thanks to the broad experiences he exposed me to, and now as an adult I've been able to return the favor and take him along on my own adventures and ignite interests in him like he did for me as a child. Nurture your son's interests even if they aren't perfectly aligned with your own and you will reap wonderful dividends for the rest of your life! :icon_thumleft:
