Pocket Knife

Found this Pocket Knife today. Says "American Knife" on the brass sides and I can barely make out the word Cutlery on the rusted blade. No other marks. PLEASE can someone identify the period of time and the maker. Everything else found in the vicinity dates 1868-1890. Thanks in advance
