20161012_175852-1.jpg20161012_180022-1.jpg20161012_175913-1.jpgI found this penny that is missing the last number in the year. Also it appears to be miscut. Did the magnet test just to be on the safe side. The magnet did not attract the penny. Can someone plz tell me if I'm on to something here?

First off was the penny found detecting??? if so it might very well have gotten clipped by a lawn mower.

No i just found it in some loose change.

IMO...no extra value. Common cent, post mint damage.
It's a keeper in my book though, as an oddity.....it takes nothing to amuse me.

It doesn't look like a straight cut so I think it was done by someone after the mint. I would keep it because its cool.

it is worth 1 cent.

ground off, making it easier to use in a slot screw on a 1945 Willys Jeep

or this boring tool.

I'm not an expert, but I believe that is a clipped error from the mint. I've found clipped dimes via roll hunting, including silver ones, and they all exhibit the Blakesley effect on the rim at both sides of the clip. Notice the weak strike near the clip, in 'Pluribus' and most certainly the missing numeral in the date. Check eBay for values in completed auctions.

The Blakesley Effect is exhibited as weakness of rims or details directly opposite of a Clip. I don't see any Blakesley Effect on this coin and even though it is highly worn, there should be some evidence. I could be wrong but I believe as some others that the Error was Man Made manipulation.

For all anyone knows, it could have been stuck in the tread of a tire and been ground down. However, I like seekerGH's idea better.

Called a clipped planchet error caused by the U.S mint. The year is a common date but the planchet error is significant. Honestly Ebay is a great tool, using sold listings, to determine value
