Actually, this piece I'm curious to what it is, as well.
Look like a small rubber hose would be attached to the smaller tube.
Possibly chemistry-lab related?
Either way, it's one weird little petcock looking item.

Looks like a gas valve and pilot flame,like for a nice bunsen burner or an out door lampost...

Looks to me like an old gas valve for a gas light, torch or heater. Maybe the smaller tube was a pilot light and the larger was the main burner, which would have to be opened manually. Don't know for sure, just a guess.

I found it at the beach about 12 inches down. Seems like outdoor lamp could be possible. :dontknow:
