For those that didn't see, above is a thin strip of ploughed field we found at the weekend.

Spent 3.5 hours (7 man hours) & covered the whole lot (about 2 acres).

Had 4 roman bronze coins (1 not pictured as it was the best one which I gave to the farmers daughter for school)
1 Medieval Coin Weight
18th Century Clog clasp
Roman bronze pin-head
bit & pieces...

Then towards the end Dad got our first roman silver coin this year. We have worked hard for this & it was unexpected as we are 1 mile from the roman town in the middle of grazing land.
Its in bad shape & we are still trying to ID it, although its likely late 3rd century.

UPDATE;
Severus Alexander - Denarius AD225

Now we are back to scratching around for land again :'(

Thanks, it was my first thought when we saw it in the field. However the letters we think we can see don't fit his lengend.

Sorry... couldn't see the lettering clearly enough to check it out Maybe the WildWinds "Partial Inscription" search engine would help.

You may still be right as the lettering is hard to read. Thanks for link, although my Dad produced his own database & search engine of every legend variation some years back so that we could search on part letters.

Nice piece of sculpture.

I would like to "reverse engineer" the math however.

Let's see.... 7 man hours= 2 people(3.5 hours each)

Hmm, that leaves us at 87 hours per man per day per litre, and I am curious as to what accounts for our little discrepancy.

:icon_scratch: :icon_scratch: :icon_scratch: ??? :-\

Great finds--Congrats

some excellent finds and a cool show and tell for the daughter congrats to all

Man, that old Roman has been through the ringer, but I'm sure it put a smile to you and your Dad's faces. Heck, even a chewed up, oxidized merc puts a smile to my face. ;D

Nice job on the ID of your coin. Good luck in the coming months. Hope you make some great finds!!
