I have a Garrett GTAx 1000.? It has several settings - All Metal, Coins, Beach, and 3 individual settings.? I'm planning a trip to Galveston Tx next week for a couple days.? Never had it on the beach before.? I've used the beach mode at a local lake - not sure if that justifies as a real beach...probablly not as the sand is different than the ocean beach.? Can anyone help me that may be familiar with my detector - will this work well on ocean beaches - How should I set my discrimination and depth to maximize my finds - Hoping for some gold - Can anyone help me with some suggestions on what best to do and where to go down there when I get there.? I've done some research ...looks like "Stewart" beach is a family oriented place ....and theres a place called "East Beach" which is suppose to be an open beach for teenagers and younger set and they allow drinking there..so getting there on Tuesday after the weekend should hopefully be fruitful.? I would also love to hit Padre Island - but not sure where to go that I won't get my detector pulled from me by the park ranger...surely there are some good areas that I can go on Padre.. One last thing.....I've been reading up on "cuts" and it appears they are the areas to look for to get the concentrated stuff that accumulates, but I'm not sure what I will be looking for when I get there.? Anyone that can shed light on these questions ???? ?

Re: Need your suggestions !!!!

I have a GTI 2500 and it has the same basic electronics with a few more bells and whistles....I think? Anyway, you said you have a "beach" setting and that is probably where you need to go with your detector. Mine don't have that setting but it has a "salt elimination" feature, that is supposed to compensate for the extra conductivity of salinity. If you have a manual way to ground balance I would suggest you ground balance it to the beach conditions instead of relying on the auto balance. I had a heck of a problem with black sand, it caused so much static I could barely make out the tones. After I worked with it a bit and did a manual ground balance it smoothed out and did ok. I didn't try it in the water however, just wet and dry sand. I have a hitch in my getalong and was afraid I would drop it. You might ask Jeff of Pa to move this over to the Beach and shallow water forum for more replies. JIM
