Could anyone help me to identify a button, please?.. I've picked it up from the ground at construction site in Cardiff, UK. Seems it's bronze. I had spent many hours trying to identify it on my own, but finally failed: there are lots of photos of buttons with similar picture (not surprising, because it's lion and unicorn (?) supporting the shield), but no one that would look exactly like this one. The most distinctive part is the carving at the edge of the button: I saw it on other buttons, but then the image was completely different (an anchor or whatever else, but not coat of arms). The diameter of the button is 23-24mm, as can be seen on the attached image.
I had sent images to The British Button Society, but they couldn't identify it. They answered, literally, "I do not think that it is British. That style of edging is generally only used on UK maritime or similar. I have seen this sort of edging on buttons of the Austro-Hungarian Empire and also Italian
buttons but what the coat of arms is supposed to represent is anyone's guess". People from an antique shop couldn't identify it as well, but one of them recognized victorian crown on it, and supposed it could be a livery button.
Any help would be appreciated.
