You should be able to squeeze the two clip buttons and pull it straight out.

:-)

If the Nipple plunger is on the bottom towards the coil then, yeah he put it together wrong.
I can't in the world see how he could have done that though.
Stranger things have happened.

He must not have used it then...right?
The black plastic piece on the bottom of the shaft will pull out and you can start over.
Oh, and be careful with the wire from the coil to control box. They do break with too much manipulation (wire fatigue)

Here's a pic of proper assembly.

Ok
so it was attached properly. But why does the coil assembely keep falling off in the surf?
Anybody see any issues with permantly attaching it?

None...
None what so ever.
Is the Nipple spring broken??

It should have memory to pop back out fitting into the female end positioned on the upper shaft.
Are you turning the lock located on the bottom of the shaft? Clockwise?

It appears that the lower PLASTIC rod that the coil is attached to is not glued or cemented? into the lower fiber rod.

:-)

Here's the plan. I'm taking it to a minelab dealer in DE on Friday. We'll see what he can do.

It is the plastic shaft that is falling out of the lower Fiberglas shaft. Also I could not pull the fiberglas shaft out of the anderson blue shaft if my life depended on.

Thanks for all the responses. I'm sure I'm be in the surf as soon as Friday!

I had to glue one of mine as it was loose, I used marine epoxy, just be sure you have it in the proper position, once it sets up there is no undoing it.

It sounds like the previous owner never took the shafts apart to clean them, now it is frozen. You can try a spray penatrating oil and let it set over night, it might release it.

I always take mine apart after each use and wash it out with fresh water......

iv had this problem in the past of the lower rod being stuck in the upper shaft.i just turn it upside down, spray it good with WD40 wiggle it a bit and work it out.

Thanks dixie I'll give it a try.

Definately giving her a cool rinse after every use is a must

this thing just isn't coming apart! Oh well not surewhy I'm tryng to take it apart anyway.

You can also heat the aluminum tube up with a blow dryer to expand the tube then use some good penetrating oil. Get the shaft warm enough and it will expand but the fiberglass inner shaft won't. Get it hot enough that it is hard to handle but not hot enough to burn you.
