Metal Detecting
I am in the outdoors for several reasons. I like to hike and I enjoy photography. When I can, I'm swinging my metal detector. But by just being out there I find things. I like it when the sun is low and I can look in that direction and see things glint. Sometimes I find points this way. These are four I have found over the past years. One is pretty standard, but the other three baffle me. Can anyone help with an identification? I know you will want to know where, but I don't remember specifically. I spend a lot of time in Utah, Idaho, Nevada and Oregon, with some more time in Colorado, New Mexico and the Dakotas. I find them, put them in my pocket and then put them in baggies with similar finds. I lose track of which came from where. Up until I joined this site I did not really know there were different points. I just think of them all as "indian arrow heads". Any help will be appreciated.

Out of my area too..but super sweet finds! Love the far left one

Hey Grizleebear. Hopefully Larson and some of the hunters from your areas will chime in. We will get you an I.D. I could look them up but chances are I would be wrong. Hang in there.

They look African :P But I'm from the Midwest so I wouldnt know lol

Can you give us a little help as to the locality of where each of thr four points were found. Just a general locality.
Thank You!

This link should help at least get you in the right ball park.
You can search regionally... or by individual states. It doesn't give much detail but you can narrow down your search to a few names then search those individually. Sorry I can't be of more help.

Neolithic Simply refers to a time period. He stated clearly these did not all come from the same place.

They look like they came from the Sahara, not North America.

As I said, I don't really remember. I have hiked all over the west for many years. I never really thought about points as any more than something to pick up and put in my bocket. I store them in my "Pretty Rocks" box. I have given away more than I still have. Kids always got excited about them. I kept these because they are so small and seem fine somehow. Sorry I cannot be more help.

These are Neolithic points.

If I read this correctly you think that over a forty year time period I found these four points at different times and in different places that somebody brought back from North Africa and spread around to fool someone? I only know that I found them. I see them when the glint in the sunlight. Until I joined this site and began reading the interesting finds of others I never thought much about them. I got out my "pretty rocks" box and found these and thought they were worth posting. I live full time in an RV and travel the west. The biggest issues in this life are Space and Weight. I only keep the "best" of my finds. The rest were given away to friends and their kids. I allow myself one large shoebox of "pretty rocks". I kept these because they seem nice and are very small. I have no other information. I do appreciate the efforts to help me understand them. I know they are "points", but I thought all arrowheads had the little flanges on the back.

tho they may have been scattered over various places they are all still from the slapaho tribe

that's offensive dimedigger

just guessing...a gunther triangle, and some kind of small cascades? for the first three. just a guess, hope someone will come along to say what they are

Nice finds, GrizLeeBear! With unlimited storage space I would be keeping those too. Sorry I can't help you with an ID tho.

I will take a stab at it since there is no definate place of orgin. :icon_scratch:

The first one on the left looks like a reworked Merserve point?
The next two resemble points that are found from Califorina and north into Canada. They resemble two types of leaf-shaped points. One is named a ''Pelona'', and the other is ''Spedis''.
As for the far right point, it resembles a Pelican Lake/Harder ''Variant''

Maybe this will help in identifying these points. Some of them may be questionable, due to not knowing where they were found. Hopefully, someone else will add his two cents worth with less irony.
