This is an absolute beautiful piece but I don’t know what it is, any help would be greatly appreciated! It’s heavy and is made of wood and with what I assume is cast iron because of the weight. Probably weighs around 40lbs. It’s 4 feet long, 15 1/2” wide and approximately 1” thick. Has threaded holes on each corner. Thanks for any help identifying this!

Transom ?

No, if you used that as a transom in a boat, it would just sink. :dontknow:

Sorry, I couldnt resist. :laughing7:

Seems like I've seen something like this before, but what I'm thinking of had stained glass in the open spaces and would have been hung in front of a window, but at the weight you mention I dont know if thats a valid theory.

I remember my grandpa's house, which my mom told me was old when my grandparents bought in 1928 had these ornate cast-iron floor heater grates in it. I still remember the monster looking coal furnace down in the cellar of that creaky old house and I got to toss lumps of coal into the fire when my grandpa was shoveling in coal for the night. Grandpa later had it converted to gas, as I remember that he tried to explain to me we can't go down in the cellar and play with fire anymore. I recall that made me sad.

I'm positive it sits horizontal and is some sort of protective vent guard.

Are the bushings in the corners threaded? Might be a coffee table missing the legs and glass top?

I think you have a really nice door panel. The width and thickness are right for decorative door panels. I think the 4 holes in the corners are 'after thoughts,' when someone acquired the door to use to hang the panels on the wall for decoration. No company, who made that door, would *******dized that beautiful door by drilling 4 holes in the corners. Below are a few examples of similar doors.
Nice find :)

Based on the 'weathered' look of the wood, I'm thinking Breezies' on the right track.
Looks to date to the Arts and Crafts period.

"The Arts and Crafts movement was an international trend in the decorative and fine arts that began in Britain and flourished in Europe and North America between 1880 and 1920."

That would make for a nice display piece over a doorway.

It's the back panel for a garden bench.
