Hello All my friends.

Please note, I did not find this coin with my machine, however I am stumped about what it is and thus have come here to ask you for your help.

I find it very difficult to take pic's of coins, but will in the meantime try and discribe this coin to you.

On the one side it has a head facing to the left.
The coin OD is about 16mm.
It looks like brass but might be gold. (How would I tell if it is?)
On the same side as the head it says UNITED STATES.
It also has these little stars 7 at the top and 6 at the bottom.
There is this sort of reed that goes around the coin but slightly inside from the edge, like little dots.
On the other side it says in the middle JULY and then there is a date below also in the middle I think it says 1838 the third number is difficult to see, could even be 1828 tomorrow I want to loan my friends special magnifying glass to try and determine what it is., from the bottom on this side there seems to be some sort of leaves or such.

I have been concentrating on my coin collection the last few months, still trying to give my back operation time to heal, but as soon as summer sets in, I surely will be out again.

Thankyou to everybody in advance and also to my friend here who kindly sent me some coins.

Hey Africa,
I don't think what you have is a cash coin. It might be a token or some kind of
commerorative coin. :icon_scratch:
Could really use a picture of it to be able to tell you anymore.

Okay my friend was not at home this evening, I have wasted a few batteries to try and set my camera up to take a few pic's, my scanner power supply is burnt out, thus once I have had some pic's taken, I will upload them here.

Thankyou

;D No not that one, I also saw it, that one is very expensive, however I saw my friend, I have taken a few pic's, I am just uploading them to
www.photobox.co.uk however I really hate that web site, because it takes so long to resize photo's, can any of you please send me web links to other web sites that I can use to upload pic's to?

I will be posting the pic of the coin just now.

Re: Please help me indentify this American coin

It is what is known as a "game counter"— a token used in much the same way that play money or poker chips are used today— and is listed on page 12 of American Game Counters by Rulau and Fuld. The actual date is July 1868. (The significance of this date is unknown.) This game counter imitates the design of the U.S. "Indian Princess" $1 gold coins in circulation at that time

Here is a similar piece on eBay:

Thankyou to everybody who replied to this posting, you guys are wonderful and helpful, it took you only seconds to indentify this item, you guys are good at this sort of thing, I did have a look on eBay, however I have to log on and cannot remember my name and pass words, what price did it sell for, just interested.

Thank's to all.

Unfortunately, it did not receive any bids.

I don't know about this variety, but on eBay other imitation gold $1 game counters in Fine or better condition often sell for $5-10 U.S.
