I recently found some items in my grandmothers storage, and their are tons of cool items, but one is about to take my sanity because I don't know what it is for sure. I have an idea but I'm hoping someone can help me identify it, as my grandmother recently passed is unable to assist me. She used to take me to garage sales and on walks/hikes to find "treasures" and I would not be surprised if she left me these items on purpose for my son and I to find. We found all sorts of other treasures that I can post under the "found today" forum if anyone is curious. I just started on this site so i'm not sure if they qualify because they were acquired thru gift rather than finding. Thanks in advance because I'm sure someone will probably know right away!

Welcome to Treasurenet! Not sure what your item is but it looks like some kind of wind instrument. Did you try and blow into it?

Thanks! At first I thought it was a pipe or wind instrument but there is no opening in the chamber to the stem. Sorry, I probably should have mentioned that in the description..... Be gentle, I'm new....

Don't know what it is, but it reminds of a really fancy and complicated version of that game kids used to play where you had the little ball on the end of a string and had to flip it up and catch it in the cup.

Instead of blowing thorough it, I wonder if the little pots are to be blown OVER, like a very small jug band kind of sound.

I remember owning a game like that when I was young! My father would bring fancy versions of that home from all the different countries he would travel! Alas, it is not that as far as I can tell. I tried blowing over the holes but I don't get much of a sound. I guess I've never played an instrument like that so I'm not sure if I'm doing it correctly.

Ok, now were getting somewhere! I didn't want to add my thoughts because I didn't want to lead anyone in any direction that I couldn't verify or that would stifle your own creative thoughts but I also thought it could be some sort of incense burner/ stick holder. I cannot find anything even close to this on the Internet but I think I'd need more description. The designs look like they could be middle eastern or Asian to me but not sure. For all I know my grandmother received this from some hippie that made it themselves. I'd like to think I would be happy just knowing what it is, but part of me knows that the origin would be a huge bonus

To me it kinda looks Cajun/Creole. New Orleans? Haiti? Lots of supersticious folks down there. Sage burner?

Looks like some sort of stash case , maybe for insolence or even maybe for smoking materials ... could have been lost by a old middle eastern hippy ... IMHO , Woodstock

Hello toastapley.
This looks to me like an oriental inkholder, could be silver, get i tested.
The three containers maybe had 3 colors of ink inside and the writing tools, pens, correction knife were stored inside the log compartment.
I know the ottoman type (an example here: Inkwell Pen Holder Ottoman Armenian Silver Pure : Shop Online for Antiques, Antique Furniture, Antique Chairs, Antique Silver, Vintage Furniture, Haute Couture, Fine Art, Jewelry & Gems, Ethnographic Art, Bullion & Coins. Be NYC Hip & Shop d-vers™ , ), have never seen a triple one with different wells, yours is a very fancy one, can't exactly identify it, I'll try some more but I think this info can get you looking for a exact match, too.

Wow, some of those look really similar but I'm not sure the holes are big enough. There are no markings of silver but also has no reaction to a magnet. I will have to get it tested. Thanks for everyone's help!
