Years ago I spent some time hunting arrowheads and gathered a small and decent collection. After seeing Newt's posting on his clovis (congrats Newt), I pulled out some of my points because I remember finding half of a fluted paleo. Can any of you tell me if this is a clovis or just considered a fluted paleo and anything else you could tell me about it? Also pictured is a birdstone and another item I can't identify, neither of which did I personally find, but was given years ago. I would like to know anything I can about these if you don't mind. Thanks.

Thanks, I only actually found the partial fluted paleo. As for the other two, they could have come from any part of the country and the one item is smooth and looks like fossils in it.

Thanks for the plug.
Is that a broke Folsom point?
Great finds,
Newt

Where did you find the point? That will help narrow down the type. If it's from Michigan it's probably not Folsom or Cumberland, if it's from Arizona it isn't a Cumberland.

The piece with the fossil is a pretty common fossil presentation from Morocco (the fossil is common to many parts of the world, but that black matrix is usually from Morocco.) It isn't intended to be a fake, but I've seen them passed off as relics before.

wow wow looks like a Folsom to me
super rare point
cumberland base points out more than down
and folsom point down

If you found it in Michigan, it would be a Barnes or Gainey point (you can google these) -- both of which are from the Paleo era, but neither are early Paleo (Clovis).

Your third piece is a fossil. In some eras, it is not unusual to find fossils, quartz crystals and other pretty stones on habitation sites. The impulse to collect neat stuff is not unique to us :laughing7:

could we get better close up pictures of the broken point.
and can you tell us where it was found.
thank you

i just love seeing pictures of pieces like that!!!!!!! :) yes, area found please,my guess is east coast, the material is diff then the grade of western stuff ... and is it fluted on both sides? im jc, one side looks to be fully, and the other, halfway?
hmmmmmmmmm folsum????

Sorry for not responding sooner, been away from the computer. Here is another picture and to answer your question, I found this in SW Michigan. There was another person hunting in the same field and didn't believe me at first. About a week later, his son found a similar point that was also busted in half so he believed me then. Thanks for the input!
