I found this ring at a known civil war encampment and rich indian history. I have no idea where to start on how to identify it. I've only been detecting for about a year and I am extremely happy with the find, regardless of the age.
ANY HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED!!!!!THANKS IN ADVANCE

That is an old ring! Is it brass?

Congrats!

I'm not sure if it's brass or gold. My F75 ID'ed it around 19 to 22; I think brass normally gives me a higher tone but not 100% certain.

Could it also maybe be pewter?
I guess it could be, I haven't weighed it yet; but it is extremely light. It is also hard to tell by the photo, but it has alot of green patina.

Could be an Indian trade ring, appears to have had something soldered to the top of it! Interesting find and HH, Mike

If it is extremely light that would most like ly eliminate gold, plus gold doesn't tarnish. I'd be guessing brass? Looks really old and a nice find any way you look at it. Monty

That's what I'm thinking too, and I would imagine it is pewter. Very cool find--and Very old!

More likely copper that had a gold wash on it. I would say Victorian by design. Hope you come across the part that is missing.

The designs on the ring remind me of some that I have seen in Can Cun and Puerto Vallarta. mexico.
