Can anyone identify this style of cabinet for me? A relative of mine is getting ready to sell their house and they wanted to know if this cabinet might have any value. The right side of the cabinet had 15 drawers at one time, but some are missing. The drawers have glass panes on the front and metal handles. The left side of the cabinet has a large door that reminds me of a vintage wooden icebox. I forgot to take measurements but I estimate it to be about 5' wide x 3' high. Since the drawers have glass panes on the front, I believe that this cabinet may be an antique store fixture where the product could be seen through the glass on the drawers. Has anyone seen anything similar or have any ideas what this may have originally been used for? Any help is appreciated!

I myself love it although I don't know what it is.But I think you are on the right track thinking it was a type of display case. You might take a lot of pictures from different angles and check with antique stores or consignment shops if they have an idea of it's value.

....more pics all sides ? The BACK would be interesting. Inside the left door, could you find a metal lined interior ? I realize it is cobbled together.... the 15 drawers portion must have been a stunning piece.
TKS,
....Mark.

Yuppa - looks like a store display cabinet. I would strip it down and coat it with some red oak stain!

I don't know that it would have been a store display, some lingerie cabinets have glass front drawers as do some of the old linen chests.

Have you found anything that would ID the maker, or its origin in any way?

Thanks for all the replies. Unfortunately, those are the only pictures I was able to take during my brief visit. I really did not get a good chance to look it over, but I do not recall there being any metal lining on the inside of the compartment on the left side or any kind of label either. I think the compartment on the left side may not even be original to the drawer section on the right side (they might have been two separate sections). I will try to do some more research and see what I can find.

It's a store display for dried goods. It was a General Store's best way of displaying their wares. Herbs, beans, flowers, seasonal dried fruit..... Think of a grocery store Deli counter. All different kinds of meats, cheeses, and salads.....Hard to give a value. I know antique store owner's who love them, because you can display a lot of "stuff" in them.

It's really neat. I build and restore a lot of cabinets, and looking at it I can see the door on the end isn't original to it. It looks like the original cabinet ended there and that whole section was added. It would need a closer inspection to tell what it originally looked like. but I would guess the base isn't original to it, and if they are lucky there may be original an original base or legs hidden under there, the strip across the top looks added on as well.

Looking at it, I think it would be a good restoration project.
