Please help ID iron object found with bayonets

Hi...
I'm trying to identify what this piece is? It was found with a collection of bayonets. I realize this may have nothing to do with bayonets however, my guess is it too has some sort of military use. It is 16 1/2" long and 7 1/2" wide. It is made of iron and is painted black and appears to be hand hammered. It is pointed at one end and the other looks like a spade shape. It is flat and 1.70mm thick. It has a crude maker's mark that appears to be an "L" in an oval with 2 stick figures holding crossed flags on poles. Perhaps it was used in surveying or marking distances, etc.?
