found button where apparently there was a house before civil war and lasted until 1950s? I have looked every where online but nothing... if you have any idea please say. size of a penny. I found all these where the used to sit, like under the house. I need the one with the bust identified. it says "extra quality" on back. thanks for all feed back.

I wonder if that button had a glass inlay that covered the portrait? It resembles buttons made by the Waterbury Co. but without the added rim that yours has.

I don't think so the middle was pushed down. there was a filler but it ether rotted or fell out because of the side of the rim that is missing. it is VERY VERY fragile I can barely touch it without the rim trying to break.

Is the bust part loose? What makes me think there was something between the rim and the bust is the difference in condition. The rim is very fragile but the bust portion looks to be in very nice condition. Also, I have never seen a button constructed like you believe it was. Can you post a picture of the back?

IMG_1391.webpIMG_1390.webpIMG_1389.webpIMG_1388.webp its a three piece the bust is loose now but just enough rim to hold it in. but I don't know much about buttons unless they are war. thanks for trying to help. you can see the dirt still falling out.

Thanks for the added pictures. Now, I see what you were telling us although I have never seen a button separate like that. My best guess would be a late 1800s to early 1900s civilian button. I know someone here can tell us when that particular backmark was used and that will narrow down the time frame.
