Friend of mine found this while metal detecting. It is approximately 3.5 x 3.5 inches. back is slick. has a keyhole. front with shield swivels to reveal keyhole. Made of brass, we think. Any help greatly appreciated. Shield looks like it had a motto across front but no longer legible.

Cool I've never seen one like that. Looks like a faternal motif. Just a guess but I would say mid 1800's. Very cool

thank you for the help Breezie and Vayank54. Anybody else gotta clue? We were especially wondering if it had any military association since there was quite a bit of civil war activity where it was found.

This has a "secret society" look to it. Knights of Pythias maybe? I know this is a wild guess, but it has the "look".
